New Delhi, Aug. 22 If you are a musician looking for a sophisticated instrument for professional pursuits or a beginner seeking to self-learn an instrument, then your quest ends with Furtados Music.
With youngsters patronising Western music in a big way, Furtados is firming up plans to expand its retail presence to become India’s most comprehensive music instrument superstore.
“Our aim is to create a stimulus for learning and propagating music. To take a step forward, we have associated with the musical instrument manufacturing company Yamaha as its core dealer in key territories.
‘As a part of this association we have launched the first exclusive Yamaha showroom at Ambience Mall in Gurgaon, which will be a one-stop solution for all sales and service needs of western musical instruments,” Mr Philip Rodericks, Managing Director, Furtados India, told Business Line.
Founded in 1865, the company is a major importer and distributor of sheet music, musical instruments and accessories imported from the US, the UK, Germany, Japan, Korea, China, Sri Lanka and Indonesia.
More stores
Speaking on the market, Mr Rodericks said the Indian audience is tuned to the global market and western music is gaining acceptance. The company plans to take the number of its stores from eight to 20 by 2010.
“We will be expanding our footprint pan-India which includes spreading to tier-1 and tier-2 cities. The expansion will be funded partly through debts and internal accruals,” he said, adding that the cost of setting up one store is estimated at Rs 2 crore.
Books too
Besides musical instruments like grand pianos, electric guitars, and the violin, the company will also be retailing a range of books on music besides providing after-sales support. “We have over 20,000 stock keeping units and offer in-depth product information and a regularly updated catalogue,” Mr Rodericks said.
Furtados stocks a range of musical instruments and represents leading manufactures including Yamaha, Samick, Mapex, Perl River, and Ritmuller among others.
